About Bernadette the Spider
Bernadette the Spider is my subtle but constructive protest at the lack of handmade work available in the commercial world. I strive to make hand made one of a kind objects more easily available to those who would
normally fill their home and bodies with commercial products.
Spinning, weaving, and dyeing. These three traditional techniques are the basis for Bernadette the Spider . First I chose the fibre, then spun and dyed. It is then woven with other hand spun or commercial into a pattern. Until this final stage do I completely know what it will become, this is my favorite stage of the process. Right before it bursts into it’s own individual object.
Textile arts have been so modernized that, very few remember the feel of a lovingly crafted handspun handwoven Shawl. I strive to put care and character into every piece I create, every one is completely individual. Meant for that one person to come along and fall in love with.
